A crane arm broke and fell at a construction site near a mall in downtown Bangkok on Thursday afternoon, killing one worker and injuring another.
The accident happened at the site of a new hotel, the expanded part of The Market Bangkok shopping mall, on Ratchadamri Road in Lumphini district of Pathumwan district, Praram 199 radio center reported.
Police and rescue workers dispatched to the scene were referred to the ninth floor of the partially completed building, said Pol Maj Jakkrapong Pithakornsakul, Lumphini’s chief investigator
The arm of a 20 meter high crane had broken and fallen to the surface.
Two workers, both from Myanmar, were seriously injured. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where one of them was later pronounced dead.
An investigation into the accident has begun.
At 12.31pm, a crane arm collapsed near The Market Bangkok mall in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district. Bon Kai firefighters and rescuers who arrived at the scene found two people injured. They were taken to the Police General Hospital. (Photos: Rescuer Ronayuth Kulapantha Facebook)
