Betty Cooper had a final duel with TBK in Riverdale Season 6 Episode 17
Sunday 12th episode Riverdalethat happened to be the american psycho Musical episode, mainly took place at a convention for fans of serial killers. Betty (Lili Reinhart) was hoping to lure TBK to the convention so she could finally stop him. And while she got a call from TBK at the convention, her final showdown actually took place at her childhood home.
Betty saw TBK in her bedroom window and rushed to her home, where the killer was holding Alice Cooper (Girl Amick) and Charles (Wyatt Nash) hostage. Betty found TBK in the garage setting up a dining table. He tried to convince her that they were soul mates and that she could be a murderess just like him. However, she refused to become his partner and shot TBK dead with the same gun her father once used.
Unfortunately, TBK never unmasked himself before he died, and Betty didn’t bother to remove his mask after death. Many fans were disappointed about this Riverdale would not reveal the identity of TBK after so many weeks of mysteries and theories.
“So we’re really not going to find out the identity of TBK? That’s not a secret we should take care of? What a big disappointment.” wrote a fan on twitter.
“I know it’s more interesting to play with the psychological impact of these great evils on the characters, but not revealing the identity of TBK is a COP OUT.” added another person.
Riverdale season 6 quietly revealed the identity of TBK in a previous episode
It wasn’t quite the reveal fans wanted, though Riverdale showed TBK’s face back in Season 6. As viewers may recall, in Episode 7, a construction worker at Archie Andrews’ (KJ Apa) home approached Archie with a piece of palladium. The worker, posing as Dennis (Doug Chapman), then knocked Archie unconscious and tied him up in the attic. TBK had discovered that palladium weakened Archie’s invincible superpowers.
When viewers next saw TBK, he was back in his mask and wearing the same outfit as the construction worker. But for just a minute Riverdale revealed the identity of TBK: a random guy who may or may not be named Dennis. Hopefully future episodes will delve into the background of the now-deceased killer.
Why the writers decided to keep TBK masked in his final moments
It’s an ancient trope often found in Scooby Doo and other mysteries: The good guys always expose the bad guys when they get caught. So why Riverdale decide to hide TBK’s face in his final moments with Betty? According to series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the writers debated whether to expose him.
“We talked a lot about it in the hall. We talked about that last scene with TBK and Betty and whether TBK should wear his mask,” Aguirre-Sacasa said TVLine. “Ultimately, we felt this was the truest representation of who TBK is and what he represents to Betty. So it was very deliberate not to show his face there. But remember, we saw it when he was working construction for Archie.”
Riverdale Season 6 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
